What Families Have Shared
Rachel Leung
Mid-Levels, Hong Kong — February 2025
We placed my mother at Banyan Lodge following a suggestion from a family friend, and the fit turned out to be better than I had hoped. What I notice most on visits is how settled she seems — not just content, but genuinely at ease. She has been coming to the Brush & Ink Workshop since her second week and mentions it frequently. The staff remember things about her that she has not even told us.

Sai Kung, Hong Kong — January 2025
My father is particular about food, and I was worried that transition would be difficult. It was not. The meals here suit him, and the kitchen clearly pays attention to who is eating what. The location near the trails has also made a real difference — he walks more here than he has in years. My only note would be that weekend communication with the office can be slower, but the care itself is consistent throughout the week.

We used the Ten-Day Stay while we were travelling overseas. It was an immediate relief to know that my mother was not simply managed during our absence, but genuinely looked after. She came back from the stay talking about the workshop instructor and the morning walks. The pricing was also transparent — exactly what we had been quoted, with nothing added.

Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong — December 2024
I looked at three places before choosing Banyan Lodge for my aunt. The difference was apparent immediately — not the brochure, but the actual feel of the lodge on our visit. It was clean and calm, and the person who showed us around clearly knew the residents by name. My aunt has now been there for four months and has settled in more than any of us expected. The English-language environment was important for her.

My mother has been attending the Brush & Ink Workshop without being a resident — just the programme itself. It has given her two mornings a week of purpose and company, which is exactly what she needed after retiring. The sessions are gentle and there is no pressure to produce anything. The instructor is patient and clearly enjoys what she does. Good value for what it provides.

We arranged a Ten-Day Stay for my father after his apartment renovation, and what was meant to be ten days has turned into a permanent placement — his choice, not ours. He simply did not want to leave. The Stanley setting suits him, and he has formed genuine friendships with other residents at the shared meals. The team here deserves considerable credit for making that transition feel natural.
A Few Longer Stories
A family of four adult children, all with busy professional schedules, needed to find a long-term residential option for their mother — a retired teacher in her late seventies who valued her independence and had grown frustrated with the clinical atmosphere of other homes they had visited.
Banyan Lodge's relaxed, home-like setting and the private room arrangement suited her immediately. The introduction period — where staff spent time learning her preferences before forming a routine — made the first weeks feel manageable rather than disorienting. The Brush & Ink Workshop became a focal point of her week.
Eighteen months on, she remains a resident. Her family describes the placement as "the best decision we didn't expect to be easy." The children visit in rotation and describe the lodge as a place where their mother has, to their surprise, found a new social life.

A couple — both in their early eighties — had lived independently for many years. When one of them required a period of rest following illness, they did not want to be separated, but also did not want a placement that felt permanent. Their children sought a short-stay option that provided genuine care rather than a holding arrangement.
The Ten-Day Retreat Stay accommodated both of them, and staff made particular effort to ensure the healthier spouse felt included in daily activities rather than simply accompanying. The shared meals and morning walks together gave the stay a rhythm that suited both of them.
They returned for a second stay six months later and are now considering a longer arrangement. Their children describe the first stay as having "removed the fear" around what residential care could look like.
